Biren Patel, PE, MBA, PMP – Electrical Engineer/PM

As a Project Management Professional, Biren is a student of the latest Project Management techniques and will plan and execute your project to meet your highest expectations.  After six years, Biren resigned from Burns & McDonnell to open BPE.  As a consultant engineer and project manager, he has both performed designs and led projects for large IOUs including Southern Company, Florida Power and Light, Dominion Virginia Power, Northeast Utilities, American Electric Power, and Oklahoma Gas and Electric and well as municipals including Dalton Utilities, City of Homestead and Jacksonville Electric Authority.  He is a physical design specialist with design experience from 500kV to 12kV.  He is a nationally recognized expert in lightning shielding and is a member of the IEEE D5 working group, developing IEEE Std. 998.  He has also designed both industrial and utility scale solar facilities.  He is a licensed professional engineer in Alabama, California, Georgia, Florida, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Jersey, South Carolina, and Tennessee.


Kris Furrevig, PE – Sr. Protection and Control Engineer

Kris is a seasoned protection and control engineer that has worked on generation, transmission, and substation equipment of voltages levels up to 500kV.  He has led the engineering design and conducted quality control reviews on a several greenfield and brownfield substations for clients such as Pacific Gas and Electric, Florida Power and Light, Keys Energy Services, Duke Energy, Army Corps of Engineers, and City of Homestead, Central Maine Power, Vermont Electric Cooperative, and Central Vermont Public Service.  To offer vendor flexibility to his clients, Kris has implemented a variety of protection relays from manufacturers such as SEL, Westinghouse, GE, ABB, Basler and Electroswitch.  He is licensed professional engineer in Florida and California.


Steven Middlecamp, PE (ret) – Sr. Electrical Engineer

Years of experience – 44

Steve is a physical design expert for substations.  He recently retired from FP&L and performs physical designs and quality checks for BPE.  His FP&L experience includes 13kV through 500kV design projects.  He also writes equipment specifications, administers construction contracts, and prepares estimates.  Due to his Florida presence, Steve is ideally suited to help our Florida customers with on-site support at a moment’s notice.  He is a retired licensed professional engineer in Pennsylvania.


Bryce Hattori, PE – Civil Engineer

Years of experience – 25

Bryce owns Project North Engineering and partners with BPE for substation designs.  Bryce’s experience includes design and analysis of various structures, foundations, retaining walls and excavation support structures.  He has also performed inspections, conditional assessment surveys, failure investigations, and feasibility studies.  His past experience includes utility as well as industrial customers.  He is a licensed professional engineer in Georgia.


Jayson Mathis, EIT – Senior Engineer

Jayson has spent his entire career as a consultant engineer for utilities. He has engineered substations for Southern Company, American Electric Power, Tennessee Valley Authority, Florida Power & Light, Dominion Virginia Power, Northeast Utilities, Oklahoma Gas & Electric and First Energy. Jayson is a seasoned engineer, skilled in both P&C and Physical engineering for substations. He is also an expert at performing lightning shielding analysis using the Rolling Sphere Method of IEEE Std. 998.


Tray Dedrickson, EIT – Electrical Engineer II

Tray’s experience includes electrical layouts, switch replacements, breaker replacements, conduits, cables, grounding, elementary diagrams, wiring diagrams, and yard lighting and lightning risk studies.  His graduate level math background helps him perform unique engineering studies with results our clients can be confident in.


Rev. Joseph Shippen – Electrical Engineer II

Joseph has mastered lightning protection using the Rolling Sphere Method of IEEE Std. 998 and serves clients by performing shielding studies. Joseph also helps our QA/QC team by performing point-to-point schematic and wiring diagram checks, and helps our solar customers with site feasibility evaluations. Finally, Joseph leads our Ethics Program to assist our associates in making the right decisions and for the right reasons when faced with a dilemma in the workplace.


Mitch Ratowsky – Civil Designer

Mitch’s experience includes planning and designing site development and construction projects for government, commercial, and utility clients.  His responsibilities include site plans, grading plans, erosion and sediment control plans, storm water management, utility layout, material take-offs, cost estimating, and specifications, surveying, civil design, and construction staking.  He also provides AutoCAD drafting services.


Elliot Gindis – Senior Designer

Elliot began using AutoCAD in a New York City area civil engineering company in 1996, moving on to consulting work shortly afterward.  He has also taught drafting courses for the Pratt Institute of Design, Netcom Information Systems, RoboTECH CAD solutions, and the New York Institute of Technology.  In 2003, Elliot formed Vertical Technologies Consulting and Design, an AutoCAD training firm that has trained corporate clients in using and optimizing AutoCAD.  He is also the author of the Up and Running with AutoCAD series textbooks used by technical colleges and drafters throughout the world.


Jason Sapp – Civil Designer

Jason has experience in both substation and structural steel design.  He performs CAD designs and drafting in both AutoCAD and Microstation.  As a former employee of Alabama Power, he has gained extensive experience in utility substation work and continues to design projects for Alabama Power, Georgia Power, Seminole, Georgia Transmission Corp, MEAG, and Florida Power and Light.
